Walvis to host Heroes’ Day

Erongo Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua

THE Heroes’ Day commemoration on 26 August will be held at Walvis Bay, Erongo governor Cleophas Mutjavikua announced last Friday.

This came as a directive from the Office of the President, and is the first Heroes’ Day to be commemorated in the Erongo region.

The Kuisebmund Soccer field was identified as the venue for the main event.

Mutjavikua noted that many of Namibia’s political leaders, including Founding President Sam Nujoma, former Prime Minister Theo-Ben Gurirab and former minister Ben Amathila, worked at Walvis Bay, where they also started their political careers.

Various committees which will be organising the event, including the logistics, may also announce at a later stage how attendees from outside Erongo could be transported to the harbour town, and find accommodation during the time of the event.

“In the spirit of Harambee, we are expecting to host an event with strong national character by including people from different socio-economic backgrounds. We thus call upon all people to attend the Heroes’ Day commemoration in our national colours and depict strong unity,” Mutjavikua urged.
